Managing an open position

Read current exposure and use Trade Controls for deliberate live order or position actions.

When an order or position is active, confirm the selected account, instrument, quantity, working orders, and data freshness before making a change.

Working order or open position?

A working order is an order that has not necessarily filled. An open position represents filled exposure. Cancelling an entry order does not necessarily close a position that has already filled. Stops, targets, and saved management settings are also separate states.

Trade Controls

When the current account has a relevant live order or position, Trade Controls may offer actions such as:

  • Breakeven: requests an eligible stop adjustment.
  • Reduce by 1: requests a reduction of the open position.
  • Close trade: requests closure of the displayed position after confirmation.
  • Cancel working orders: requests cancellation of working orders in the current context.
  • Adjust stop price or Adjust target price: requests a change to an eligible live exit order.

Availability depends on the current order and position state. A disabled control may mean that the required order or position is not available.

Verify every change

After an action, wait for current account information to update and confirm the order or position reflects the intended result. A request can be delayed or rejected. If reconciliation is stale or the connection drops, pause further changes and verify the authoritative account state before continuing.

For the difference between closing a position and stopping automation, see Emergency controls.
